Job Summary:  

Manage all aspects of purchasing to efficiently and cost effectively support organizational operations.

Duties:

 Conducts appropriate and timely performance reviews with direct reports.

  • Provide timely and appropriate direction and leadership to the Purchasing team.

  • Development and implementation of personal development plans and goals for all direct reports.

  • Interface with direct reports and peers to develop collaborative solutions in the best interest of the company  and customer.

  • Assist in the development of new processes or procedures.

  • Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements.

  • Work closely with IT support to maintain ERP system.

  • Direct continuous improvement of purchasing processes in line with changing organizational needs and market conditions

  • Assume additional assignments that will assist the President on a variety of issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Display strong leadership and directions to those within the Purchasing department and serve as a positive role model for others within the organization.

  • Establish and implement best practices for purchasing policies and procedures.

  • Direct procurement policies to ensure all items are purchased and delivered within budget and time constraints.

  • Measure and manage the vendor and supplier cost, quality and delivery performance.

  • Introduce performance improvement measures for suppliers and vendors.

  • Effectively encourage team approaches to problem solving.

  • Mentor direct reports and others with high potential.

  • Produce regular reports on purchase commitments, costs and delivery performance.

  • Establish yearly vendor meetings to provide forecasts for the upcoming months, vendor managed inventory and price points.

  • Identify optimal economic ordering quantities for standard material.

  • Assist in the coordination of the annual physical inventory.

  • Develop new supply sources where appropriate to improve quality, delivery and price.

  • Expedite shortages preventing the scheduled release of orders.

Education and Experience:

  • BS degree in business administration, supply chain management or logistics or equivalent work experience. 

  • Experience in purchasing and procurement

  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations relating to procurement and contracts.

  • Knowledge of purchasing and supply chain systems, LEAN principles of planning and MRP/ERP systems

  • Must have the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Wood and Metal purchasing experience.

Job relationships:

  • Reports to President

  • Close working relationship with Account and Project managers, Production Managers and outside vendors and suppliers.
